Jaguars, among many other felines, can be identified by their spot pattern. Their entire coat is like a fingerprint, they are born with it, it never changes, and it is completely unique to the individual. Look at the front of the forehead first, then check sides for unique patterns (like spots or unusual rosettes).
This guide contains a yearly report of the most commonly seen jaguars in the Porto Jofre region. The guide is arranged based on the individual sex. If you know it’s a male just look in the “Male” section and if you know it is a female focus on the “Female” section. Since 2013, we have documented 493 individuals and the list keeps growing each year! Most of the names have been selected from the Tupi-guarani language and hold significance in the individuals behavior.
